It is located in Da’anzhai, Da’an District, Zigong. Da’anzhai Limestone was named by geologists Tan Xichou and Li Chunyu in 1933 based on a suite of limestone exposed here as a lithologic stratum in Ziliujing Bed. Later it was called as Da’anzhai Member, the uppermost member of Ziliujing Formation of the Lower Jurassic. Da’anzhai Limestone, 45 m thick, comprises yellowish grey muddy limstone, calcarenite, shelly limestone together with greyish green muddy siltstone, silty shale in the lower part and purple calcareous mudstone in the upper part. It was formed in a shallow lacustrine or lake shoal environment.
