The Public Welfare Study Tour of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark Kicked off again during the Dragon Boat Festival

The 2023 "Museum Tours for Kids in Zigong" public welfare study tour of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark kicked off again during the Dragon Boat Festival in 2023. It was guided by the Zigong Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning, hosted by the Administrator Centre of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark, co-hosted by the Zigong Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, and undertaken by the Yiqu Nature Conservation Centre. Nature instructors led 30 teenagers recruited from society and 25 outstanding students from Mingjun School in Guanshan Town, Rongxian County to the outdoors. They strolled along the Fuxi River Historical and Cultural Corridor and visited the Qinglongshan Dinosaur Fossil Site to explore the stories of salt, dragons, and present-day life between mountains and rivers.

On 23 June, 30 teenagers recruited from society visited the Fuxi River Historical and Cultural Corridor. They started from the Fazang Temple, gazed into the distance at the stone inscription "Recover Our Lost Territories", passed by the Huanyuchi Pavilion and the "Justice and Integrity" Monument, and reached the Jiefang Bridge.Under the guidance of nature instructors, they learned about the changes between land and sea as well as the formation of well salt, grasped the development history of Zigong's salt industry, explored the vibrant vitality beside the Fuxi River today, distinguished between exotic and native species, and contemplated the relationship between species and the environment.

Finally, through DIY miniature sand tables, the children turned what they saw, heard, and felt into delightful creations, bringing to life the profound history of the "Fuxi River stretching for dozens of miles over the millennium" and the natural scenery of the "city covered by lush mountains and towers and surrounded by a lucid river".

On 24 June, 25 outstanding students from Mingjun School in Guanshan Town visited the Qinglongshan Dinosaur Fossil Site. They walked from the villagers' committee of Dashu Village, Guanshan Town to the Qinglongshan Dinosaur Fossil Site. Under the guidance of nature instructors, they made full use of their senses to explore animals and plants along the way. Besides, they initiated a dialogue between extant creatures and ancient life forms by seeking similarities in the limb bone structure of quadrupeds at the exposed part of Qinglongshan fossils.

After lunch, they further explored the relationship between geologic times and strata through a geological scroll game, guiding students to understand the evolution of life and reflect on the relationship between humans and the Earth, as well as that between humans and the environment. Finally, the students proposed a series of practical ways for community participation, as well as environmental protection and improvement.

Subsequently, the 2023 "Museum Tours for Kids in Zigong" public welfare study tour of Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark will continue the exploration of the Geopark to guide more teenagers in Zigong to appreciate and discover natural wonders at scenic areas and scenic spots such as the Shisun Valley and Zigong Dinosaur Museum.
