It is located in Dafenbao, Da’an District, Zigong. Dafenbao Clay was named by geologists Tan Xichou and Li Chunyu in 1933 based on a suite of mudstones exposed here as a lithologic stratum of Ziliujing Bed. Later it was put into Ma’anshan Member, the middle member of the Lower Jurassic Ziliujing Formation. Dafenbao Clay, 35 m thick, is composed of purple mudstone intercalated with greyish green muddy siltstone with wavy beddings. It was deposited in a lower-energy shallow lacustrine environment.
